ABOUT

Dr. Hirata is a scholar in economics and industrial engineering fields. Her research motivation comes from emerging debates in the shipping and logistics business while developing original models in predicting and decision making. She challenges common perceptions as well as addressing the sustainability and innovation concerns in transport and supply chain management fields.

She received her bachelor degree from the Department of Logistics Management at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (1995). Since received her master degree (M.Econ) in 1999, she has been working for a global leading shipping company in various roles including trade management, marketing, project management and digital solution management. Lately she has been engaging in blockchain application in supply chain management.

Enna Hirata completed her Ph.D. at the Graduate School of Business Administration, Kobe University in 2016. The dissertation title is Competitive Conditions in Container Liner Shipping Industry.

She has published many peer-reviewed journal papers and conference papers, in addition to a book on shipping digitization. She is member of Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), Japan Society of Logistics & Shipping Economics (JSLSE), and International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME). She has reviewed papers from Transport Research Part E, Maritime Policy and Management, among others.
